About Laurel

The hamlet of Laurel was originally known as the "Middle Ground" between Southold and the Town of Riverhead. Later it was called Franklinville, but relinquished that name for Laurel due to a conflict of names with another Franklinville. Laurel is home to Laurel Lake - well known for its trout fishing - and over 400 Acres of continuous park and trails of Laurel Lake Preserve. Some Laurel is part of the Town of Riverhead, (West of Laurel Lane) the rest belongs to the Town of Southold. Peconic Bay Avenue is one of the most beautiful Bayside roads dotted with estate like homes with private Peconic Bay Beaches, mixed in with quite affordable vacation cottages on small streets ending at the Bay sharing Bay Beach access.
