About Riverhead / Flanders
Riverhead is the glue that holds the two East End forks together, but as some would say is part of neither - it is the East End's "big town" at the mouth of the Peconic River. Visitors invariably drive by Riverhead in order to get to your destination out East.
There are many reasons why so many proudly call Riverhead "home".
Riverhead is the Suffolk County seat, as well as houses the SC Supreme Court. And home to many attractions such as Riverhead Raceway (NASCAR), Splish Splash Waterpark, Atlantis Marine World Aquarium and Tanger Outlet Mall .
"Polish Town", is probably everyone's' favorite neighborhood, noted for its Polish delis, restaurants, and its annual Polish Festival. Many immigrants who came to this agricultural region a century or more ago made their mark and settled here.
The Town of Riverhead's West and North sides tend to be more rural and agricultural - including Calverton, Manorville, Wading River, Baiting), with well known parks, camps and beaches, and Northville, from Penny's Rd to Laurel Lane on the North half of the North Fork a small, mostly agricultural hamlet, most notably home of the Long Island National Golf Course. Also Northville is home to the newest New York State park, Jamesport State Park, to be named "The Hallock State Park Preserve".
