East Marion

Nestled at the far end of the North Fork of Long Island, New York is the charming hamlet of East Marion. Formerly known as Oysterponds Upper Neck, this picturesque locale was renamed in honor of Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion in 1836. With its abundance of shellfish, beautiful bays and inlets, wildlife preserves, and vast farmland, East Marion is a true gem of the North Fork.

In the past, East Marion was home to a United States Coast Guard station, and the area still retains a strong sense of community and pride in its heritage. A notable example of this is the post office, which was constructed to honor the Coast Guard’s commitment to protecting others and also serves as a World War II memorial.

Life in East Marion is peaceful and unhurried, with Victorian homes, stately inns, and cozy bed and breakfasts dotting the area. Visitors to the famous Fork & Anchor can rub shoulders with locals over a cup of coffee while discussing global and local issues. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike the trails at Dam Pond Maritime Reserve, soak up the sun at Truman’s Beach, enjoy the fragrant blooms of lavender in the early summer at Lavender by the Bay, and indulge in seasonal produce at Sep’s Farm.
